Introduction

This document summarizes the items making up the SMARTS component.

SMARTS Components

The following are the release notes for the specified version of the SMARTS component.

Database

The database is the central repository for all data, metadata and configuration information for the SMARTS component and aspects of the DIVAS system.

ODD-DIVAS

This web-based application allows display of station data of various types. See DTN #12 for more information.

Web Services for Data

This facility allows users to retrieve raw DEOS data in an XML format for stations and data types of interest to the user. See DTN #18 for more information.

Atom and RSS Data Feeds

This facility allows users to subscribe to the daily and completed monthly reports for relevant networks. See DTN #18 for more information on generating the feed data files. The webmaster of the site hosting the webserver can present the feed links in any way they determine.

DCF

This web-based application enables the configuration of the DEOS database. See DTN #15 for more information.

HDRS

This application enables the user to extract data from the database through a web front-end. See DTN #16 for more information.

Metadata Loading Programs

These programs insert station descriptions and metadata into the database. See DTN #8 for more information.

Topography Metadata Loading Program

The tdi program updates the database grid metadata. See DTN #8 for more information.

Software Tools

There are a number of software tools associated with the SMARTS component. See DTN #24 for more information.

CFGEN

This program generates daily and monthly HTML cache files. See DTN #18 for more information.

DFE

This program generates gridded output files for display in GIS or other formats. This program is still in an experimental state. See DTN #20 for more information.

Extract

This program enables the extraction of station data from the database into formats for further analysis and processing. See DTN #16 for more information.

Ingest

This program inserts station data into the database. See DTN #3 for more information.

Maintain

This program prints reports and checks data in the database. See DTN #11 for more information.

Retrieve

This program retrieves data from remote sources. See DTN #2 for more information.

RRPM

This program generates gridded radar-precipitation estimates and stores them in the database. See DTN #14 for more information.

SHEFOUT

This program extracts and transfers DOES station data in SHEF format to the NWS. See DTN #10 for more information.
